While in the woods the other day I ran across this tree that was completely wrapped in vines. Since the vines are dormant, it is easy to see how “bound up” this tree really is. The warm weather has a few of the vines “flushing out” and soon, all you will see is greenery and beautiful blooms. The fact that these vines are choking the life out of this tree will be hidden from everyone, except the tree.
Isn’t sin like that? Doesn’t Satan make sin look pretty? Addiction, sexual sin, you name the sin, and Satan will make it look like so much fun! However, under the pretty leaves and colorful blooms, the reality is the ugliness and damaging constraints will continue to get worse as time goes by.
Sometimes the heavy (physical and psychological) weight of our sin seems impossible to escape, but Jesus is a chain (or vine) breaker! When our sin becomes too much for us to handle, when the vines become so tangled that there is no way out, call on Jesus! He, and only he, will strip away the pain and give you the freedom to live, untethered!
Never let Satan convince you that your sin is too great for Jesus to save you from it.
Romans 5:6 and 8( KJV) tells us:
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
So just know today that Satan and sin are no match for Jesus!
Here are some of the lyrics from the song Chain Breaker sung by Zach Williams (and others). If you have never heard it, you should look it up and listen!

We’ve all searched for the light of day in the dead of night.
We’ve all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight.
We’ve all run to things we know just ain’t right.
When there’s a better life, there’s a better life.
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker.
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker.
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior.
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker??
(Don’t worry…. I cut all of the vines?)
Thank you Jesus!
